In a hard-knock world that constantly tells you to “toughen up”, to “hold back your tears” or to “suck it up”, staying soft is a rebellious act. Where sympathy is naive and feelings are weak, those who still believe in true love are hard to find. “This is what it means to be an adult,” they say. Doesn’t this make you wonder, though… is this really the way the world works? Is this how we want the world to be like? What if one day, we all lose sight of what true love is?
Author Bianca Sparacino wrote, “I hope you find the kind of love that makes you a softer person. The kind of love that makes you want to be a better man or woman.” The kind that makes you want to make the world a better place.
When love wants to make you soft, let it. Love is supposed to make you a little softer, a little kinder, a little more attuned and sensitive to the world around you. Maybe that’s how we ought to live. That, in the midst of a busy world, we ought to be the calming light, giving hope to others, giving an example of what true love is. Find your true love, the kind of love that people would look to and say, “I want that in my life”. Perhaps, little by little, we can change the world with a love like that.
I hope you find a love that: makes you soft and strong. The kind that makes you gentle and makes you grow. The kind of love that makes you kind and courageous. And when you do, I hope you never let go of it. Because that is true love.
