New outfits, new beginnings
The Beauty Portraits of Elisa by Herna
Feb 2018

Every year, my mother, my grandmother, and every clothing line on Instagram ask me, “What will you wear on Sincia/Chinese New year?”

When I showed them my new favorite clothes, which I just bought last month, they don’t even want to look at it, “No! Buy a new one! Red one. No black and white, lah!”

When I asked why, they only said, “It’s Sincia!” like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

I don’t complain! I love this new excuse to shop and wear new outfits. It’s the best thing after Christmas shopping.

I follow the tradition anyway. Wearing my new red outfit, I feel so happy.

Google said something that resonates with my cheery feeling: wearing new clothes on Lunar New Year symbolizes a new start and fresh hopes for the new year. The color red also brings luck and scares away bad spirits.

Basically, it’s like I’m wearing good happy wishes on a new beginning.

That’s even better than shopping.

Anyway, happy Lunar New Year, everyone!

May this dog year bring you lots of luck and happiness.
