If you could send a letter back through time to your younger self, what would the letter say? I think mine would read: Go out there. Live it. Break the rules. Forgive quickly. Love truly, not too quickly and not too young. Make lots and lots of friends. Learn a new language. Be good in at least one musical instrument. Laugh uncontrollably. Never regret anything that made you smile.
I have found that theres a secret in the journey to adulthood. I used to wonder why its so crazy and why those times were filled with bizarre thoughts. I think its about that time that we are on a quest to self discovery, to find our true selves. Our minds are continuously tickled by the power of questions. We are eager to try something new, to go out of the ordinary, to do something weve never done before. When we do, we get scared and Im guessing that we let negative thoughts creep in. Dont shake that feeling off, because in it lies strength. Strength comes from facing challenges, and as you strive to neutralize it with positive thoughts, youll find yourself stronger each time.
That strength is necessary to find your calling. Your purpose in life. I believe we all have one. I believe that we werent meant to roam the earth just for the sake of it; there is a purpose to our existence, and its in this journey to adulthood that we are meant to find it. A calling is something that you not only do well, but something that you LOVE to do. You use your signature strengths daily doing stuff youre passionate about while contributing to something thats larger than yourself. Visualize your dreams. When you nurture your dreams, you can love the life that you are leading. Every moment that you live is a joy because you are expressing yourself fully. And thats the secret to the journey to adulthood.
Im grateful for the journey God has allowed me to walk. Im not sure I would want to do it again, even if I am given the chance to. But Im glad that in that journey, I have found my purpose. I pray that you will find yours.
