Where Life Begins and Love Never Ends

Vina family portraits by Adi

I am no expert at family relationships just yet but here’s my two pennies worth. We’re living in such times where the notion of family has changed over the years. Never before have we seen so many marriages fail and consequently we see more children growing up in broken homes than ever before. Never before has it been so culturally unfriendly to be a family raising kids with strong convictions and boundaries. It’s kind of frightening to see that happening in my generation.

No, I am definitely not trying to judge here or lament on our world’s degenerating family state. I am here to point out that we have the power to create a new family legacy, one that’s founded in love. I am truly convinced that transformation begins with us and with our family. I am grateful to have grown up in an environment like the aforementioned, thanks to my parents. When I say family, I am not talking just about husband-wife relationships, but also parent-child, siblings and in laws relationships. I know we’ll always get irritated over the silliest of things caused by our flaws and clash of personalities. If you watch Modern Family, you’d know that given the chance, each member will change at least one thing about their family if they could. But blood is blood and it’s always thicker than water.

I remember growing up the term “family time” has taken a new meaning for us as my brother and I were away overseas most of our teenage years. We’d savor every moment we get to spend with our parents during our holidays; we treasure our times even when they forced uncomfortable conversations out of us over meals. We may not always agree with our parents but the bond we have with them speaks for itself and we’d take a bullet for them. Family for us is  a place where “we do love, we do grace, we do hugs and kisses, we say sorry, we do mistakes, we do fun, we do loud really well”. We won’t always that ideal family we wish for, instead we’ll have the chaotic, crazy, real, unique family we should be grateful for, accept and celebrate. And I am truly thankful for mine.

Whoaa! That was heavy. I don’t think I have ever spent so much time drowning myself in deep thoughts about family relationships before I was asked to write this blog. Anyways, recently we had our family portrait taken by one of the island’s best photographer, Adi. We had such a memorable session and he made it easy for us to be in front of his lens. It's always good when you're comfortable with your photographer. And of course kudos to our very own stylist, Dae for making us look good.
Have a great weekend and enjoy your family time!

Time Flies!

Baby Noelle & Baby Cassandra by Ave

We are nearing the end of March. We are on the third week of the third month in 2015. How did we get here so fast? It’s either we’re having a massive amount of fun that we don’t notice the days go by, or we’re just oblivious to everything that’s happened lately.   We hope that it’s because we’ve been too busy savoring the days that we forget about the time. And we hope that for you too.

One of the things that never fails to give us a wake up call like a punch in the face is to see our clients grow up. We are so fortunate to be invited to witness journeys where time is of the essence. From the time they were still inside their mothers’ bellies, to the week or month they first came into this world, and then to the time they celebrate their first years… we are honored to capture all their moments. In a way, we too have watched our little clients grow. And that always brings such warm feelings into our hearts.

About a year ago, we had babies Noelle and Cassandra with their parents in our studio, to shoot their newborn portraits. They were two of the cutest, most adorable squishiest little babies I have ever laid eyes on. We had such a special time trying to capture some of their first moments with their Mom and Dad, taking so many pauses just to look at their cheeks and afraid to wake them up sometimes. Then time goes by and we didn’t hear from them until they visited our studio again for another set of portraits. This time they were walking. And babbling. And doing all kinds of big-girl things that made me think, “Wow, where did the time go? What have I been doing with my life?” That day, to me, was some kind of wake up call to consciously live everyday as if it were on purpose. And I hope that I can inspire you to do the same.

On an entirely different note, how cute do you think these babies are? I think they are so sweet they give me a toothache just by looking at them!

AXIOO Short Movie directed by Jimmy

We cry and we laugh. We fight and we make up. We argue. We share stories.

I don’t always understand why she does what she does most of the time. I don’t always agree with what she says. In fact, I often let my rebellious streak get the best of me, trying hard to prove to her (and me!) that I am powerful just on my own, that I can take on the world - my way!

I say things I don’t mean. I mean things I don’t say.

Yet, she’s still there for me. She still remind me to do the things I said I would do but never have, and never once has my name escaped from her prayers.

She is my mother. My prayer warrior. My safe place, the one I hurry to when trouble comes.

I don’t say it often, but I know there is a special place in my heart that is reserved especially for her.

This short clip was inspired by the countless moments I forget to say “I’m sorry” when my selfishness gets in the way and the times I forget to say “thank you” for all that my mother was, is, and always will be.

I know that I’m not the only one. I know that many of you know exactly how I feel. May you take some time today on this Mother’s Day to give your mother a hug or a kiss or even a call to tell her just how much you love her and how grateful you are to her for bringing you into this world.

Happy Mother’s Day to your Mom!

Baby’s First Christmas

Baby Nicolle

Christmas is our favorite time of the year.

We love it. We simply love it.

Even when it feels like a hundred degrees out here, at the AXIOO House, we always seem to get that warm and fuzzy feeling that makes us want to pour ourselves a cup of hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows on top.

Christmas also always seem to open up our heart and move our creativity one level up. Put out a tree, trim it with fairy lights, let the carols play on, and just like that our hearts are merry and we’re filled with sentimental feelings of Christmas.

We keep on searching for that “something” that will make Christmas feel like Christmas even here, in the tropics. We thought of shop windows, adorned with dazzling ornaments, ready to welcome the Christmas rush. We thought of the tree lots and the drizzling of snow that make Christmas more magical than we could ever imagine. We thought of those things, put it on paper, and got to work.

Our Christmas set up this year is our best one yet. Come and join us as we celebrate this wonderful season. We simply cannot wait to get all Christmassy with you.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas love

Cecilia & little Jose Portraits

Natalie Cole said that “as children we believe the grandest sight to see was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree”. I personally think there is no way to disagree with that. Even as we grow older, as Christmas draws near, we find ourselves trapped in the Christmas rush - finding presents, hosting parties, exchanging gifts, thinking about just how much of our yearly budget can we afford to blow away during the holidays.

We rarely think of Christmas for what it really is.

But I have come to realize that since becoming a mother, these profane ideas of Christmas have drifted further away. I found that I no longer wished for much anymore, because the things I wanted was to feed my soul and I wouldn’t find that wrapped under the tree.

I began to think about what Christmas really mean.

Christmas for me, is love. Christmas came to be because of God’s undying love for us, that He sent his only son. For us. To save us. That’s love.

I look to everything around me and I realize that when it comes to love, I have everything that I need. I’ve got a husband who loves me, a son who adores me, and I am constantly surrounded by dear friends and family who bring so much joy into my heart. If Christmas is love, then I’ve got all the presents I need this year.

However, I do understand that there are people less fortunate than we are in this world, people who have never had the chance to feel love. They need a giving heart. They need our prayers. So, let me encourage you to do a little something for these people today. Again, Natalie Cole says it best: ”So here's my lifelong wish, My grown up christmas list, Not for myself, But for a world in need. No more lives torn apart

That wars would never start, And time would heal all hearts, And everyone would have a friend, And right would always win, And love would never end. This is my grown up christmas list”

Early Christmas at Baby AXIOO

Dre family portraits by Ave

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.”

We love the warm and fuzziness we get at the thought of Christmas. That’s why we always welcome Christmas early every year at AXIOO. For us, it’s more than just presents under the tree or the glistening snow on pine trees; for us, it’s about family.

This year, our Baby AXIOO team has outdone themselves with Christmas set-up. It’s made us feel the tingly sensation and giddy with warmth ever since! Book you session now for your Christmas portraits now. Email info@babyaxioo.com or info@axioo.com for more info.

Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!

Family Portraits

Ken & Celine’s Family Portraits by Ave

Family pictures are the greatest, aren’t they not? I personally love mine. I try to get shots of us whenever I can. Be it during a special occasion or even in the midst of our daily routines. It annoys the heck out of my husband, but I try to never miss a day without getting all or even a part of my family on camera. Most of the time, I find the challenge to pull out my real camera and turn to the one on my phone. It’s not as great, but it serves the purpose - which is to remember. One day, when I’m old and when my memory would have failed me and I won’t remember the little details anymore, I would pull out the pictures on my phone and I’ll remember again. That’s just one reason why I do this. Here are some other reasons why I will never stop taking pictures of my family:

I want to remember our journey. I imagine that when I’m old I will only see the end result of my parenting. I take pictures so I can remember the things we went through. I want to look back on those frames and see how far we’ve come. I want to look back and be grateful.

I want my children to remember how beautiful they are. Bad memories have a way of sticking to us more than the good ones. We don’t take pictures of the bad. We take pictures of the good ones, the ones I want my children to remember. I want them to look back on their childhood and see the beauty I see in them.

I want my children to remember how much I love them. I want them to see the fun we had and how much their parents value them.

Another thing that I personally love is to schedule yearly photo sessions. It’s really fun to see just how much can happen a year. Scheduling a session with BabyAXIOO is a way to do it. Which reminds me… I am due for mine. Have you booked yours?

New Luxury

Jef, Cecilia, and Jose family portraits by Fen

What is luxury? When I ask myself, what luxury means? it got me thinking.

We often  think of luxuries as status or symbol, luxuries can often be the things we can’t buy, like the time with our loved ones in these hectic and busy world. Handwritten cards of thanks and phone calls with people we do not  see enough, it is the small things that are unexpected and come from the heart.

I made a short list in 10 minutes on what is luxury means for me, i think you should do that too, it is very refreshing and help you to see the good things in your life :)

Here it is:
1.   Waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep.
2.   Laughing so hard your face hurts
3.   Taking a drive on a pretty road while listening your favorite song on the radio
4.   A good conversation on the beach with friends
5.   Laughing at yourself for falling
6.   Laughing at an inside joke in path
7.   Making new friends or spending time with old ones.
8.   Having someone play with your hair.
9.   Swinging on swings.
10. Making eye contact with a cute stranger.
11. Holding hands with someone you care about.
12. Running into an old friend and realizing that some things (good or bad) never change.
13. Watching the expression on someone's face as they open a much desired present from you
14. Getting out of bed every morning and being grateful for another beautiful day.
15. Taking a family photo once in a while

It doesn't necessarily we have the best of everything, we just make the best out of everything that comes our way. Well, there comes a time in your life when you realize something. You realize that you love your life, you love your friends, you love your family, you love everyone, you enjoy the time you are with your friends, you enjoy spending time with your family, you feel comfortable where you are, you love the things you do, you share your love and your smile, you share a smile to the mirror and realize that you are rich.

Here is the quote that made me laugh hard, but I guess it is true

"When I was in grade school, they told me to write down what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down: HAPPY
They told me I didn't understand the assignment,
I told them they didn't understand life."

So friends, Dream BIG, Plan and Do it. But don’t take Life too hard, Enjoy every process, now that God will always there for you.

"About a boy"

Dony & Lidya family portraits by Winson

“There is more to a boy than what his mother sees. There is more to a boy then what his father dreams. Inside every boy lies a heart that beats. And sometimes it screams, refusing to take defeat. And sometimes his father's dreams aren't big enough, and sometimes his mother's vision isn't long enough. And sometimes the boy has to dream his own dreams and break through the clouds with his own sunbeams.”
