Eric & MonicaThe Wedding by Ivan
Today I’d like to share a little with you about something close to my heart. About marriage. About commitment. About sacrifice.
While marriage has its many glorious moments, it also brings with it some inevitable problems. The wedding marks a beautiful start. But when the night is over and you’ve traded your dancing shoes with a more comfortable slipper, problems come crashing in like tidal waves during a monsoon. But the beauty of marriage lies in how we deal with every problem that comes into our lives. Be it a drizzle or a downpour, we’ll find the joy by dancing in the rain. Of course, it’s easy to point out the beauty and find the joy when things are going great between a husband and his wife. But when you’re knee deep in problems and happiness isn’t visible from where you’re standing, a deeper level of commitment is required to plough through that sludge. A deeper level of commitment that usually demands the willingness to make sacrifices to keep the relationship alive. Sacrifices that means that you may not get your way in certain areas. And therein usually lie the challenge.
Marriage isn’t about survival or hanging on. It’s about living your life to the fullest. While I am nowhere near mastering that art of “enjoying marriage” and sometimes I do find myself grasping to it with everything I’ve got, after a few years, I have learned that in a marriage, disagreement may be inevitable, but conflict is optional. I have learned that finding ways to compromise and having conversations that allows me and my wife to see things eye to eye, brings happiness into the picture even when there are still many clouds ahead. I have learned that when there is less of me, there is more of we. I have learned that when I make sacrifice in a marriage, I am not sacrificing to or for my wife, but to the unity in our relationship. And that, my friends, is how I have learned to dance in the rain.
Marriage brings with it so much positivity. It is a blessed arrangement that is made to bring out the best in both parties. It is a brilliant way to live your life to the fullest, knowing that there will always be someone you’ll share it with, knowing you will never be lonely anymore. Conquer the challenges that meet you at every turn, see past the clouds, and discover your happiness – hand in hand with that one special person that had once captured your heart.
Phew! That was pretty heavy for a midweek afternoon. Now moving on to a couple in love that just recently tied the knot and simply could not wait to begin their journey together – Eric and Monica! Congratulations lovebirds! Here are a few of my favorite shots of their wedding. Enjoy!
