I love shooting weddings for many of its heartwarming parts. But what I always find absolutely mesmerizing is the part where the bride gets ready. Whether it’s in the wee hours of the morning or close to noon, whether it’s in her own room where she grew up, or a hotel room, or even a salon, there is something all brides have in common: a mixture of glowing and nervous expressions. Some would try to camouflage it with over-excitement and some would succumb to it and take the moment to be still. And all of those expressions, no matter how they are, are beautiful to me. It’s that moment where she is excited to be embarking on a new journey with the person she loves and at the same time doubt herself if she is making the best or worst decision of her life. It’s during this time that she will indulge in the last moments of singlehood and prepare her heart and soul to begin a new chapter of her life. And I always feel honored to get a chance to capture those moments.
Tineke kept her thoughts to herself during this time she was getting ready for her big day. She remained calm and collected. There was not a trace a doubt in her expressions that moment, she was ready and she was glowing. Her bridesmaids were there to cheer her on, and that made a lot of difference to her, or so it seemed. And when Dennis entered the room to pick her up, she glowed even brighter. There was certainty and it was beautiful. These expressions are what makes shooting weddings so addictive for me.
Thank you Dennis and Tineke for letting me be a part of your day. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.
Cheers,
Paulus
