I believe every girl grows up dreaming about her fairy tale wedding. Some dream about the white dress, some of the beautiful centerpieces and floral arrangements, some of the breathtaking views of where they will be pronounced forever husbands and wives, some of the exciting honeymoon. I believe every girl perfects the dream of that magical day through the seasons that passes in their lives.
A few years ago, mine came true. And that day was even more magical than I had ever imagined it to be.
I can’t remember when I first began to weave the dream of my wedding, but I do know that my little Princess has started hers at this moment. With every story of Disney princesses or tales of Royal Weddings, she is spinning her own idea of love, marriage and enchanting big day.
There is so much I want to tell her; so much I want to say about how love makes our world go round. I want to tell her about how marriage extends so much further than the beautiful or enchanting things we’ve dreamed of and about how tying the knot to the love of her life can send her heart soaring to the sky. Most importantly, I want to tell her about holding on to the lifelong commitment and staying true to herself as she grows together with him to finish the good work that is in them.
But since that would probably be too much for her to take in at such a young age, I joyfully took part in her fantasy wedding. I dressed her up in a pretty white dress and placed my veil over her head. Her eyes shined only as bright as her smile. She was glowing, just as a bride would. And as if that winning smile wasn’t rewarding enough, she leaned closer to me, planted a kiss on my cheeks and told me how happy I made her.
The chocolate smears on her face hold my feet to the ground, reminding me that this was all just a fancy game of pretend. But one day, it will be real. One day, her father and I will stand with our hearts in our throats as he walks her down the aisle to join her own Prince. Until then, I want to encourage her to weave the dream of her magical day. I want to wake up to a thousand cuddles and give her a thousand kisses in return. I want to cherish her and savor her for as long as I can - until she is ready. And that Prince can take his own sweet time.
